If you scroll through social media for more than five minutes today, you will inevitably stumble across a teenager in a rented luxury car promising you the ultimate secret to generational wealth. The pitch is always the same, and it sounds incredibly simple: Just start a ₹20,000 monthly SIP in a mutual fund, forget about it for 20 years, and you will wake up sitting on a ₹100 crore empire. It is a beautiful story. It is also a mathematical fiction. Having spent over a decade working on the inside of the public sector bank, I have seen the exact opposite of these viral fairytales.
